Medical practices continue to be ripe for embezzlements.
Doctors, dentists, chiropractors… you should know you are the most often victimized business in my experience. Here’s yet another theft made public by the Hartford Courant recently:
“A Plymouth woman faces first-degree larceny charges after her arrest Friday in connection with the alleged embezzlement of $43,000 over two years from the medical practice where she worked.”
One in nine fraud cases ever see their way to the public through the media. The volume of payments coupled with the ease of concealing the thefts within the receivables and allowances or write-offs make these practices breeding grounds for embezzling employees.
Review your practice’s financial procedures to ensure an owner is involved in all aspects of the business side of things.
